Pattern of pathogens from surgical wound infections in a Nigerian hospital and their antimicrobial susceptibility profiles.
BACKGROUND In surgical patients, infection is an important cause of morbidity and mortality. A prospective study to find the pattern of microorganisms responsible for post operative wound infections and their antibiotic susceptibility profile was therefore conducted. SETTING AND METHODS Surgical wards in Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Isolation, identi...
متن کاملFrequency of Pathogens and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Bacteria Isolated from Bloodstream Infections
Background and Objectives: Blood stream infections cause significant morbidity and mortality in the world. In this study, we aimed at describing the organisms responsible for septicemia in 2006-2007 and their antimicrobial susceptibility that might lead to proper selection of antimicrobial agents in hospitalized patients with suspected sepsis. Materials and Methods: Microbiology reports of ...
متن کاملAntimicrobial susceptibility of Branhamella catarrhalis isolates from bronchopulmonary infections.
Fifty-four clinical isolates of Branhamella catarrhalis from patients with bronchopulmonary infections were studied. The MICs for 50 and 90% of the isolates and the geometric mean MICs were determined for 11 antimicrobial agents. All the strains were resistant to trimethoprim but were susceptible to clavulanate-potentiated amoxicillin (Augmentin; Beecham Research Laboratories, London), chloramp...
متن کاملAntimicrobial susceptibility profile of isolates from pediatric blood stream infections.
We describe the pathogens and their antimicrobial profile causing blood stream infections in children over a 4-year period. The commonest pathogens were: non-fermenting Gram negative bacilli other than Pseudomonas, Salmonella species, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella species. High rates of drug-resistance were observed.
متن کاملIdentification and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Profile of Bacterial Pathogens Isolated From Wound Infections in a Teaching Hospital, Peshawar, Pakistan
Results: Out of 200 clinical wound specimens processed, Staphylococcus aureus was the most common bacterial pathogen isolated (n=100, 50%), followed by Escherichia coli (n=45, 22.5%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n=35, 17.5%), Enterobacter species (n=14, 7%), Proteus species (n=5, 2.5%) and Morganella species (n=1, 0.5%). Staphylococcus aureus (n=100) showed highest resistance to amoxicillin (82%), ...
